What is acne?
Acne may appear in form of annoying bumps, like white heads, black heads, red pimples, pus filled pimples called the cysts. The explanation for their occurrence is that our skin has numerous pores called the hair follicles, these follicles contain sebaceous glands that are known to be oily the medical term for oily would be sebum, this secretion from the gland moistens your skin causing the pores to get too filled with oil, dead cells and bacteria this causes ‘acne’. Every time the pore gets clogged there will be a bulge in the skin that is a white head.
The black head is caused when the pore remains clogged but is open from the top and gets a dark or black appearance that would cause a black head. A red pimple comes when the pore walls break open, and they allow the oil secretion, dead cell and bacteria to get under the skin looking red very similar to an inflammation. While on the other hand a cyst is caused by clogged pores that have opened up deep in the skin and are considered infectious.
Why do teens get acne?
Many teens get acne which is often understood to be a part of the growing process, caused by hormonal changes that take place in the body, while they reach the threshold of puberty. During such period what happens is that your body stimulates the sebaceous glands to secrete more sebum and hence more secretion of this sebum can cause clogging in the pores. It is not due to oily food as the common myth goes, you can not avoid acne but you can try and evade the problem by washing your face regularly, using oil free make up or then avoiding a scrub on your face as that would only irritate your skin causing further more pimples.
